August 8th is a very important election that focuses on the Ohio Constitution.  The Ohio constitution serves as the foundation of Ohioans’ rights.  The constitution should contain the broad framework and basis for our laws.  Things like, “All men are, by nature, free and independent, and have certain inalienable rights…”  The constitution should contain broad ideas that laws are built on and NOT the laws themselves.  Out of state money and special interest have long attacked Ohio voters by paying large sums of money to put law into the constitution.   

Constitutional amendments are very hard to remove or change.  That is why special interests spend so much and work so hard to corrupt our constitution.  The result we now have casinos, minimum wage mandates, and other bad language in our constitution.  Special interests are at it again attempting to put a very bad law into the constitution regarding abortion.  This particular amendment  goes far beyond bad law.  It destroys parental rights and allows minors to make life changing decisions without parental involvement.  It is immoral and obscene.  The current Ohio Constitutional provisions, require only 50% of the votes cast in favor plus 1 vote. 

The Founding Fathers knew altering the Constitution should be difficult.  They required a 66% vote in both chambers of Congress, and 75% approval from state legislatures- a substantial majority of voters to make such changes, thus promoting unity vs divisiveness.  Issue 1 if passed will require only 60%, far less than at the federal level.  What’s more, if Ohioians want to create a "law" they can still do so with the 50% +1 provision.  It is only the constitutional provisions that we are voting to change.
