Fortify Geauga Newsletter
March 21, 2024
Hello, Friends,
Welcome to a brand new week! This is the Fortify Geauga Newsletter for March 21, 2024.
A personal note from Fortify Geauga President, Tiffanie Broadbent:
The Primary election is over and we have a roundup of election results for you. Congratulations to all the election day winners and to those who worked hard in their races. Primary races are especially intense! I’ll be brief this week, as illness has kept me out of the loop for several days. But here are some of the issues we’ll be delving into in the next few weeks:
The travesty of our Open Primaries. There are currently three different pieces of legislation in the works at the Ohio Statehouse designed to close our primary elections. I’m gathering some resources to help us all understand the differences between these bills and how citizens can be involved in helping make this important change.
A crucial discussion on Township zoning rights. Did you know there is a plan afoot at the Statehouse to take away individual Township zoning regulations and force all Townships to adopt a state-level zoning policy? This is a direct threat to the autonomy of our Townships. Stay tuned for more.
West Geauga School Board member attacked for doing her job. A former West Geauga School Board member, defeated for reelection in 2022, submitted a letter to the Geauga County Maple Leaf last week. In this letter, he called out a current board member for suggesting the school board should perform a curriculum review. Personally, I find it outrageous and inappropriate that a school board member would be publicly criticized for doing her duty. Those of you who know me personally must suspect there is no way I’m going to let that slide! More when I’m back in “fighting form”…
Finally, a deep and heartfelt thank you to all the poll workers who make our elections work. It’s a very long day that requires stamina and professionalism. I’d like to express particular thanks to the poll workers at Veteran’s Legacy Woods. Did you know if you are having a health crisis and can’t walk in from your car, they actually have a procedure for curbside voting? Many, many thanks for their gracious help!
As always, thank you for spending a few minutes with us. I’m looking forward to bringing you more content next week!
Warmly,
Tiffanie Broadbent
Weekly Spotlight: Moratorium on Marijuana Businesses
There is a new issue on the horizon that we hope our readers will act on. It involves checking with your local township to see if your Trustees have pursued implementing a moratorium on marijuana processing and sales in your township. Fortify Geauga member Sharon Madger provides details and steps for action here.
Would you like to join us for a Patriot Potluck on Saturday, April 6th? Hang out, make connections, and find out what we’re working on this Spring and Summer. If you are a conservative in Geauga County or nearby areas, we sure would love to see you there. Find details and registration here.
