Fortify Geauga Newsletter

April 4, 2024

Hello, Friends,

Welcome to a brand new week.  This is the Fortify Geauga Newsletter for April 4, 2024.

Every week, our volunteers put a great deal of time and heart into bringing you updates on state and county legislation and issues that impact our communities.  We attend county meetings and educate ourselves and our neighbors.  Fortify Geauga is run entirely be volunteers who give our own energy, time, and money to keep to our club running.  We are committed to bringing grassroots conservative values back to your local government and Republican party, but we can’t do it without your help.  If you enjoy our Newsletter, website, and events and would like to help us keep them free for the community, please consider supporting our fundraiser.  We are selling stunning red “Don’t Cuyahoga our Geauga” t-shirts for $25 (short sleeves) and $30 (long sleeves).  The sale ends April 12th.  Please order today!

Have you heard about Senate Bill 83, the Enact Ohio Higher Education Enhancement Act?  Sponsored by Senator Jerry Cirino, the bill is only a few steps away from becoming law.  But conservatives are split on whether the bill goes too far toward chilling free speech in its quest to rid higher education of the strictures of woke ideology and cancel culture on campus.  Read the arguments on both sides in this week’s post To the Contrary: Conservatives Differ on Higher Education Bill.

Ohio’s open primaries are a continuing problem, allowing Democrats, Independents, and unaffiliated voters to influence which Republican candidates end up on our general election ballots.  Read Part I of our report on the quest to close Ohio’s primaries:  Closing Ohio’s Primaries, Part I.

Concerned about election validity in Ohio?  So are we!  On Friday, March 15th Fortify Geauga members attended a presentation by Marly Hornick, Founder of New York Citizens Audit, and elections cyber security expert Harry Haury, to gain insights into Ohio’s elections.  Don’t miss this write-up and video from the event: Ohio Election Validity Scorecard.   And SAVE THE DATE for your chance to see the presentation in Medina on Wednesday, April 10th (details in post).

Speaking of saving dates, there are two local events for parents of Special Needs students coming soonGeauga County Homeschool’s Special Education Conference and Learning Disabilities Association of Ohio’s Special Education Workshop for Parents.

Last but not least, don’t forget about our Fortify Geauga Patriot Potluck on April 6th.  Geauga and nearby conservatives are welcome at this free event, but you must register by Friday, April 5th.  We hope to see you there!

As always, thank you for spending a few minutes with us.
