Fortify Geauga Newsletter
May 16, 2024
Hello, Friends,
Welcome to a brand new week. This is the Fortify Geauga Newsletter for May 16, 2024.
There are two very important issues that require a groundswell of citizen action this week: zoning rights and medical freedom.
Zoning rights: This is possibly the most important issue we’ve brought to your attention. While the issue of zoning might fly under your radar, it has a dramatic impact on the quality of life in our county. Right now, the Ohio Senate is poised to alter or eliminate township zoning rights, resulting in drastic changes to the character and development of our county. There was an important and lively meeting of the Geauga County Planning Commission on Tuesday, May 14th. Senator Sandra O’Brien was in attendance and fielded several questions from the Planning Commission and the audience on the Ohio Senate’s plans to usurp township zoning authority. Her message was straightforward: NOW is the time for residents to let the Ohio Senate know where we stand on this issue. Please read Local Senator: Act NOW to Preserve Township Zoning Rights for details on her comments and exactly who should be contacted. Your voice is needed! If you are not already familiar with this issue, please take a few minutes to learn about this alarming possibility and what you can do to stop it: WATCH: Will the Ohio Senate Move to Usurp Township Zoning Authority? (Interview with Zoning Inspector Chris Alusheff) And please SHARE it with ALL OHIO residents who live in townships. Don’t forget to register for our Patriot Potluck on Monday, May 20th. We’ll have updates from Mr. Alusheff on this crucial issue.
Medical Freedom: Our frequent readers will already be familiar with House Bill 73, the Dave and Angie Patient and Provider Protection Act. This bill has had a long and difficult journey through the Ohio Legislature and now the sponsors are asking for citizens to submit testimony on behalf of the bill. See details here.
In case you missed it last week: Do you ever get the feeling our “red” county is not really very red? Does it make sense to you that the majority of Geauga county voters chose to enshrine unrestricted abortion in our constitution last year, or to approve recreational marijuana? Have you noticed the antagonism expressed by our “Republican” elected officials toward conservatives in our community? If we really are in the majority, why doesn’t it seem like it? We need to bring grassroots conservative values back to OUR Republican party. It starts with transforming our Geauga County GOP Central Committee into a vibrant, effective body that truly represents us. Take a look at this week’s post, Republicans in Geauga County Need Real Representation to understand how weakness in our county GOP is holding us back and what you can do to help.
As always, thank you for spending a few moments with us. Have a wonderful week.
Weekly Spotlight: Last chance to register for our May 20th Patriot Potluck!
We’ll provide pizza, drinks, updates from Chris Alusheff on anticipated Senate legislation to curtail township zoning rights and information from the Ohio Election Integrity Network about the newly-introduced Ohio Votes Count Act. The event is free but registration is required. Hope to see you there!
