Fortify Geauga Newsletter

May 1, 2024

Hello, Friends,

Welcome to a brand new week.  This is the Fortify Geauga Newsletter for May 1, 2024.

This week, we interviewed Charles and Susan Johnston about House Bill 254, which aims to enhance and expand property tax exemptions for disabled veterans in Ohio.  Memorial Day will be here before we know it.  While we take time to remember and honor those veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice, let’s do what we can to help care for those whose sacrifices left them with disabilities.  Please watch the interview and follow the steps in the post to help support this bill.  If you are a disabled veteran or know one, please consider preparing testimony for the next hearing on this bill.

Medical Freedom update:  Last week, we informed you about frustrating stall tactics in the Ohio Senate (In Case You Missed It:  OAMF President Describes Outrageous Stall Tactics on Crucial Medical Freedom Legislation.)  This week, we have good news:  The Chair of the Senate Health Committee has changed his plans to rewrite the bill and will move forward with Rep. Jennifer Gross’s current version of the bill.  Click on the link above to read the updated call to action for House Bill 73, and don’t forget to visit Ohio Advocates for Medical Freedom and sign up to receive their updates.

Have you heard about the petition circulating to add two members to the Geauga County Budget Commission?  Ohio law allows for two citizens to be elected to the Budget Commission in each county.   This petition would put a referendum on the November ballot to allow Geauga County to elect two citizen members.  Read more here.

Save the Date:  Join us for our May Patriot Potluck on Monday, May 20th at 6:30pm.  (Registration required – details here.)  We’ll have updates from Chris Alusheff on anticipated Senate legislation to curtail township zoning rights and information from the Ohio Election Integrity Network about the newly-introduced Ohio Votes Count Act.

As always, thank you for spending a few moments with us.  Have a wonderful week.
